My name is Brian Elsner and I am 31 years old. I am married to a wonderful educator named Dana who works at the Burke Museum. We recently welcomed our first child into the world on May 2nd. His name is Lincoln Beaudry Elsner and he (and mom) are doing great!
After completing the ARC program at Seattle Pacific University, I will continue working at Seattle Prep. This will be my fourth year teaching at Prep, but my sixth year on campus. I worked as an Administrative Assistant and then Program Tutor in the Learning Resource Center at Prep. My two years working there provided a wonderful base and incredible fire to become a classroom teacher.
Through a variety of unusual circumstances I ended up full time in the classroom teaching history. I will continue this year teaching history to freshmen (world) and juniors (American) in our Collegio format. Collegio is an integrated format combining English and History together in one class. It is a fantastic way to learn. Additionally, during the second semester I will be co-teaching a class for seniors called Ecology, Economics, and Ethics. I am part of a team who has been creating the curriculum for the class and this will be the first year in its application.
As a history teacher (and economics as well), I recently earned my endorsement in Social Studies. I also serve as freshmen class moderator at Prep, as well as National History Day coordinator. Lastly, I am the Associate Head Coach of the boys varsity basketball team and will be entering my tenth year in coaching.
