In The Beginning

In the beginning of belsner.wordpress.com blog history, there is a man who wants to be a teacher. Well, actually I am a teacher, but I want to be certifiable.

My name is Brian Elsner and this blog will serve as a living artifact on my way to certification from Seattle Pacific’s Alternate Route to Certification program. So who am I in the beginning? I am a thirty year old Social Studies teacher and assistant varsity basketball coach at Seattle Preparatory School. I will be beginning my fifth year on campus and third year in the classroom this August at Prep. As a graduate of the school in 1997 (as well as another great Jesuit school in Santa Clara University four years later), I truly believe in Jesuit education and the experience it provides for students.

I have a wonderful wife Dana as we approach our one year anniversary.

So why certification?

I have a lot to learn about teaching. I know I have good instincts in the classroom and I have the passion. I believe I even have some of the techniques and applications needed, but not enough. I am excited to learn as much as I can about being a great teacher. This is the beginning and I feel fresh and ready to learn.
